The African University College of Communications admits all students who meet our academic requirements without any reference to ethnic background, religious or political orientation, or nationality.

The following categories of candidates are considered for admission to first degree programmes in the University College.

Entry level for all categories of applicants:

Applicants with WASSCE must obtain a minimum of six credit passes (C6) in six subjects (3 core and 3 elective subjects respectively).SSSCE

A minimum aggregate score of 24. Applicants must obtain at least a D (4) in six subjects.GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels

Applicants with ´O´ or ´A´ Levels must have Grade 6 or better in five (5) ´O´ level subjects including English, Math and a Science / Arts subject. In addition, they must have passes in 3 subjects, one of the passes should be Grade D or better at the ´A´ Levels.International Students

International students with qualifications equivalent to those mentioned above (1-2) may be considered for admission. They must also show evidence of proficiency in English. This includes applicants holding Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE, GCSE and other external qualifications which have equivalences to the SSSCE, WASSCE and GCE.Mature Candidates

Must be Ghanaian nationals, 25 years or above and must pass a mature candidates qualifying examination and interview.Other Qualifications

Holders of University of Ghana Diploma or its equivalent, with Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 3.25 or better, eligible to apply to the same area of study. Holders of Diplomas in other areas of study must have distinction.Candidates in Possession of a Diploma

Applicants must have graduated with a good HND certificate (i.e at least 2nd Class Lower Division). In addition the applicants must have acquired a 2 year post – HND qualification working experience. AUCC follows University of Ghana’s practice with regard to entry levels for HND applicants. Other Diploma qualifications from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND may be similarly considered.

The BSc Administration programme in Accounting emphasizes rigorous, innovative and analytical training aimed at providing an educational experience, which prepares students for a world of employment in addition to empowering them as potential financial managers, financial consultants, administrators, entrepreneurs, wealth creators and ultimately employers. The major aim of the programme, then, is to address the current need of accountants and financial managers who can help solve the financial crises of the Ghanaian economy and the world at large. Upon completion of our programme, our students will have a strong quantitative background, most typically in mathematics, economics, accounting and finance.Objectives

  • To provide students with the appropriate and relevant skills and knowledge for post qualification application in the real world of accounting.
  • To provide students with the ability to set up and operate a simple accounting system appropriate for their business.
  • To enable students to become accounting literate and to analyse financial statements of business entities for their personal and business decisions.

Banking and Finance

The Banking and Finance programme emphasizes the provision of excellent banking and financial services which can stand the test of time and meet the global and international standards in the financial services industry. The programme prepares students who can make viable contributions to the financial services industry with innovative banking and financial practices. Students will be exposed to local, African and international modern financial and banking practices, theories and ethics to prepare them for the financial services industry and to solve the many challenges that the industry is currently facing in Ghana and the world at large. With the modernization of the current financial market, the programme will explore current banking industry trends such as Internet and electronic banking, relationship banking and effective capital and financial services management.Objectives

  • Enable students understand the use of financial models and appreciate their practical relevance to financial institutions
  • Impart to students how a firm’s future financial needs is predicted based on a sales forecast which entails the construction of a pro forma income statement and balance sheet.
  • Empower students to use capital rationing techniques to assist them utilize limiting factors efficiently and improve upon profitability in business decision-making
  • Develop in students the knowledge and skills needed to critically appraise information contained in a published company report and accounts
  • Understand the monetary system of Ghana and its relationship with the rest of the economy
  • Enable students examine the conduct of financial operations in a variety of settings

Human Resource Management

This programme provides students with the necessary theoretical and practical grounding necessary to function effectively as HR practitioners. Initially designed as a general programme, this programme now allows specialisation at the undergraduate level. The philosophy of the HRM programme is partly embedded in the objective. In order to be adequately prepared for the above identified tasks, the delivery of the course involves a wide range of methods including lectures, cases, discussions, assignments, student presentations and special projects.Objectives

  • To give students the necessary theoretical and practical grounding necessary to function effectively as HRM practitioners. Such grounding would groom the HRM graduates to function both as employees and as potential HRM consultants.
  • To enable students acquire the knowledge and skills needed to pursue effective careers in the human resource field.
  • To prepare students to assume specialist, generalist and managerial positions in HR departments in the private, public and nonprofit sectors.
  • To expose students to a fundamental grounding in the acquisition of a practical, functional HRM education that allows them to compete in the HRM job market.


The marketing curriculum is designed with a global outlook, but national focus in mind. Ghana’s economy is growing and changing to reflect a sharp growth in the service sector. Part of the growth in the service industry has been substantial progress in the knowledge industry. This means much of traded goods are now intangible, and the marketing of these intangibles are likely to be more difficult than the marketing of tangible goods. The marketing curriculum has been designed with this change in mind. Our curriculum will turn out graduates with a full understanding of the complex, theoretical and ever growing practical challenges associated with contemporary marketing around the globe. Armed with an education from our School, graduates will be positioned to function effectively as employees in the capacity of marketing executives, marketing consultants as well as establishing ventures that provide marketing services to a wide range of clients in different industries. The content of the programme and the method of delivery both reflect this.Objectives

Development Communications

Training in this programme is intended to enhance the use of communication as a tool for strategic intervention to promote and support social development. Customized to meet the needs of governmental and non-governmental organizations, international agencies, and professional bodies in the areas of development, the department is geared towards producing media professionals who are knowledgeable in issues of development and interested in utilizing information and communication systems and processes to advocate for specific development projects, and to facilitate and promote national, regional and community development.

Development communication is a challenging programme that combines development theory and practical application. The curriculum includes theoretical immersion in pertinent areas of national development, such as science and health policies, economic development, environment studies, gender issues, training in applied research methods and training in communication campaigns geared towards policy implementation and change in society. Students are required to demonstrate proficiency in a number of areas – theoretical understanding of developmental issues, research methods, media campaign and advocacy planning, and proficiency in use of particular media of communication. In their final year, students work to design and execute a formal communication campaign on a particular developmental issue in a community.

To successfully complete the B.A. in the Development Communication track, students must also complete the school’s liberal studies, pre-major preparatory, communication theories, and project requirements.


The professional journalism track prepares students for careers such as news reporting, editing and production. The track is based on a liberal arts foundation, knowledge of the social context in which the professions are practiced, and the skills and experiences needed to succeed in the marketplace of print, broadcast, online and multimedia journalism.

The programme includes courses such as news gathering, reporting and writing, public affairs and in–depth reporting, investigative and interpretative reporting, reporting and writing for the electronic and online media, and print and digital media page planning and radio and television production. Graduates from this programme will qualify for positions as reporters, editors, and producers in the print, broadcast, online and multimedia journalism industry.

This track is for students who love to write, work under the pressure of deadlines, and ask tough questions. To successfully complete the B.A. in the journalism track, students must also complete the school’s liberal studies, pre-major preparatory, communication theories, and internship requirements.

Strategic Communication

The strategic communication track prepares students for careers in advertising and public relations. The track is based on a liberal arts foundation and the skills and experiences needed to succeed in the marketplace of advertising and public relations.

Graduates from this programme qualify for positions in corporate communications and public relations and marketing set ups, in the creative and account sides of advertising businesses, agencies, and other media environment.

Students in the strategic communication track combine advertising or public relations focus. To successfully complete the B.A. track in strategic communication, students must also complete the school’s liberal studies, pre-major preparatory, communication theories, and internship requirements.

Visual Communication

The visual & digital communication track is designed to provide students with realistic, profession–based training in visual communication and digital media, while at the same time providing a strong liberals arts and cultural background for a strong scholarly education foundation.

Professional training is offered in informational graphics and publication design, interactive multimedia, and photojournalism for newspapers, magazines, television and online media. Given the increasing convergence that characterizes new digital and visual media, students are encouraged to develop skills in at least two areas of visual and digital media creation.

After completing the emphasis core requirements, students will select a combination of introductory and advanced courses that will give them specialization in two of the following areas – photojournalism, web design, multimedia production, television documentary production.

To successfully complete the B.A. in the visual and digital communication track, students must also complete the school’s liberal studies, pre-major preparatory, communication theories, and internship requirements.
